There Is A Place For YOU At Calvary!

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Since September Sunday school has continued to run from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. each Sunday.  There has been tremendous support from volunteers to keep it running smoothly. Numbers have been considerably small especially in the youngest age range. We started out with approximately 12 children in total for Sunday school. As the family Christmas concert approached there was a wonderful group effort in practicing to perform a wonderful story by Max Lucado called The Crippled Lamb. Children and volunteers did an awesome job! As a result the Sunday school grew to approximately 24 children. Each child received a gift. Also, over the season we collected mittens on a Christmas tree for the Dream Center to be distributed to children who needed them. The tree was filled by generous donations from our congregation!
A new change was made regarding the age Sunday school would go up to. In the past Grade 6 was a part of Sunday school however with changing dynamics in society, Grade 6 will now be a part of the Jr. High age category. Grade 6 children are now taught in a class with Grades 7 and 8.
A continental breakfast is provided before Sunday school for all ages. A great team of volunteers work each Sunday morning from 9:30 -10:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this time together.
As the New Year has begun we are continuing Sunday school and we are encouraging children to bring out their friends. We would like to start the MAK program with focuses on raising money and praying for our missionary children. Please pray for Sunday school and the future leadership who will continue this vital and important ministry.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Wow, how quickly a year can fly by. Susanna and I have had a great year of ministering to the youth here at Calvary and the community of Lindsay. My intent last year was to not make too many changes, but to build relationships, establish a leadership team and evaluate the needs of the youth group. When we first arrived here we started with about 8 to 10 faithful youth. The youth group has grown to a core group of about 30-35. These youth have just recently (in January) been split into separate Junior (grades 6-8) and Senior (grades 9-12) youth groups. In January we averaged 14 Jr. Youth on Wednesday nights and 20 Sr. Youth on Thursday nights. This separation of youth nights was absolutely essential for our ministry to be effective and relevant to the vast age group represented in both groups.
I have built two leadership teams; one for Sr. Youth and another for Jr. Youth. Sr. Youth night has five great leaders; Susanna Jones, Ed Corner, Lisa Emery, Jeremy Rausch and Amy Myles. EACH of these leaders do a tremendous job ministering to the youth and there would not be a Sr. Youth ministry without them. The leadership team for Jr. Youth on Wednesday nights consists of Schennelly Stoughton, Ruth Bartlett, Pat Finkle and Cindy Knowles. These leaders and I are going to learn a lot about Jr. Youth ministry in the coming year. The vision for both youth ministries consists of:
“Our youth ministry exists to reach believing and non believing students, to connect them with God and other Christians, to help them grow in their faith, and to challenge students to discover their ministry and honour God with their life through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
A major goal we accomplished last year was to get the youth plugged back into PAOC district events and rallies. This was accomplished as the youth attended Jr. High pre-convention, Jr. High Convention, Sr. High Convention, Jr. High Camp, Sr. High Camp, and Firehouse (a youth leader’s conference). I have been attending sectional youth leaders meetings and went to Refuel, a youth pastors’ weekend in Ottawa where I developed contacts and friendships with youth pastors from all over the Eastern Ontario district.
One of my major goals for both youth ministries is spiritual growth this year. We could have a youth group of 200 but if the youth are not growing in the Lord and we are only having fun and games then my work is futile and mere babysitting. Whether we have 20 youth or 200 I want to see Spiritual growth in young people’s lives. I want to see youth graduate from this youth ministry knowing how to find comfort in the Scriptures, having a well developed prayer life, a dynamic relationship with God, accountability with other Christians, using their Spiritual gifts to build up the church and reaching out to the community around them.
His to affect a generation.
Pastor Keith

YOUNG ADULTS MINISTRY

Wow, would you believe it is 2006? I am excited to say what was once a newly launched ministry is now looking at starting its third year. Yes, two years have passed and so much took place in such a short period of time. It can be confusing to build up a ministry from the bottom up. You never really see what you’re going to be lacking until you’re a ways down the road.
This past year we focused more on building up a discipleship program. One of the things we notice is there was no shortage of people being touched by God or being reached by the gospel but what we did realize is they were hanging around for a long period of time. As time would pass they would disappear one by one and the main problem we found is we didn't have a way of starting to teach them and build a strong community that would support them in prayer and answering questions. So we focused on building home groups which in time would start to build this missing piece of the puzzle.
Since then we now have two home groups running weekly Bible studies and providing a place of support and accountability. Each of those groups regularly has attendance of between 6 to 10 every week. Each group also has someone training to start another Bible study in this up coming year. We are hoping to have four home groups running in this upcoming year which will potentially have everyone at Oxygen going to a weekly Bible study and part of a group that would support them through prayer and hold them accountable. The results we are seeing so far are amazing and the growth in those that attend is quite evident. So our goals this year is to continue to build on discipleship to get ready for our next few steps.
At the end of this past year we made the move from Sunday evenings to Monday evenings. So far the move has been a good one. Most of those attending on Sunday evenings have now started to attend on Mondays. We are also seeing new faces from the local college checking things out and most deciding to attend regularly.
This upcoming year is going to be exciting because we hope to get back to reaching out to the community. I want to thank everyone that has had a part in this ministry whether through prayer or attending and helping every week. Your support is a big part of what happens every week, thanks.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sanctuary Class
The Sanctuary Adult Class meets regularly every Sunday morning to study the word; we have an attendance of 6-8.
Up until Dec. /05, Janice Swanson was the main teacher. She is to be commended for a job well done. She always came to class well prepared, but she felt led to step out of teaching for the present time.
Our class at present is studying I & II Peter, Jude, and Numbers from Radiant Life. It is a study of the believer’s life from salvation to spiritual growth, as well as the believer’s responsibility in service to God, others as well as themselves.
We welcome others to join us, if you are interested in studying the word. The time is 10:00 a.m. The place is the Sanctuary of Calvary Pentecostal Church.
A.R. Bartlett

Café Class
The Precept Adult Sunday School Class meets in the Café on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
In 2005, attendance averaged 17 students.  There was no class in the months of July, August and September.
Using the Inductive Method of Bible Study, in January 2005, we began a 13-week study on the Pentateuch using the study guide, “Teach Me Your Ways” written by Kay Arthur.  We are working at our own pace (have already made it to Genesis 32) and often have lively discussion. We are discovering that Genesis lays the foundation for the entire Word of God, the great themes of life, and the direction of all human history. Genesis and the four books that follow provide an intimate knowledge of God and His incomparable ways.  Observing His relationship with His chosen people Israel gives fresh insight into how, through Christ, we can live today - “by loving the Lord our God, by obeying His voice and by holding fast to Him.”
Come, join us as together we seek after truth.

OVERCOMERS (50+)

Overcomers Group Picture
Our Own Musical Group.

1 John 5:4   ...this is the victory that has overcome the world even our faith. N.I.V.
Overcomers continue to be a vital part of the life of Calvary Pentecostal Church, involved in a variety of activities. Monthly fellowship gatherings have an attendance of 30-35. Guests included Constable Tammy Brydon of the C.K.L. police service speaking on safety and security. Pastor Keith gave insight into his ministry with the youth.
Over 70 attended the annual fall banquet with Pat and Rex Warr ministering in music. Newcomers were sent follow up letters. This brought very favorable response. Our desire is to reach out into the community.
Plans are underway for a 50+ rally on Sept.15 2006. David & Norma Jean Mainse have agreed to come . Please begin to pray now for this outreach. One hundred Samaritans Purse shoe boxes were filled and sent out in November.
A child in Kenya is supported through Child Care Plus on a monthly basis. December saw several ladies baking and packing delicious treats for the shut-ins. Over 20 tins were delivered with a visit being an important part. Thanks to Mary Bovair for coordinating this. In the past year several Overcomers received promotions. Although we miss them very much we can rejoice in knowing they are having the ultimate fellowship in the presence of Jesus In the absence of an active Women's Ministries the Overcomers were asked to oversee the church family Christmas turkey dinner. Over 200 were served with all ages working together. A special thank you to many unnamed seniors who are a blessing to the whole church family in many ways. Your labors of love do not go unnoticed by our Heavenly Father. Thank you to the committee members who have worked faithfully behind the scenes and filled in when I was absent. You are appreciated. God bless you richly
In His service,
Ruth Armstrong

MUSIC MINISTRY

As we begin a new year I am reminded how faithful God has been over the years. God promised to be faithful and He has kept that promise.  Looking ahead, I have every confidence that He is going to do wonderful things in our lives in 2006.  So let us pray for each other and encourage one another.
This past year the Lord has brought to our church and community Pastor and Mrs. Grimes and family. We all really appreciate their ministry among us. Our worship team has grown in their awesome responsibility as leaders.  A joy for me is pouring into our team and watching them grow. I have said this before but music without ministry is mere performance, but music with ministry can stir us and inspire us to greater heights in our worship to our Saviour, Jesus. Thank you for your faithfulness worship team.My heart is that everyone be participants in worship not spectators. We all worship God in different ways but true worship is a matter of the heart.

Some of our worship team attended the “Unite in worship conference” at the Congress centre in Toronto last May. Every time we go to one of these conferences we learn something new that we can apply to our team or reinforce things we have been doing. In the evening there was a worship time and a special speaker. The worship leaders at the conference were Brian Doerksen band, Sean Dayton, Hillsong United, Noel Richards, Paul Wilbur, Something Like Silas, Vicky Beeching, Dan Wilt, Toronto Mass Choir, Tehillah Toronto Band, BevAcqua, Joel Auge, Craig Douglas. Some of these worship leaders were workshop speakers as well. A few of the workshops were--- what is worship?-intimate worship—worship leading (performance or presence)—really knowing God. Our soloist ministry is always appreciated and I know you spend time praying and learning music and God uses you to minister to us as a congregation. Thank You
The church board appointed Murray to take over the sound ministry and he has spent many hours reading and learning about sound and projection. Thanks Murray and to everyone who is involved with sound and projection you are very much appreciated.
May the Word Of My Mouth
May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart
Bless Your name, bless Your name, Jesus.
And the deeds of the day and the truth in my way .
Speak of you, speak of You Jesus
For this is what I’m glad to do, it’s time to live a life of love that pleases You
And I will give my all to You
Surrender everything I have and follow You.

WEDNESDAY PRAYER MEETING

Each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm, there is a gathering of adults for the prime purpose of PRAYER. Pastor Grimes shares a very brief, faith-building, devotional from the Word (“Faith comes by hearing and hearing from the word”) and the remainder of the time is devoted to prayer. These gatherings are marked by a wonderful sense of the Lord’s presence and it is a blessing to hear so many leading in prayer on behalf of our families, church ministries, other community churches, our nation and missions around the world.
The average attendance since October has been 23 people. While the vast majority of those attending are in the upper age bracket, it would be very beneficial to see a representation of all age groups actively engaged in collective prayer.
Respectfully Submitted,
Pastor Terry Grimes

PRECEPT BIBLE STUDY

Romans is the constitution of our faith, our compass on the journey to righteousness.  It contains all the information we need about righteous living.
In January 2005, twenty-four students continued the 9-week study in Romans with Romans Part 3 (Chapters 9 - 11), contemplating the Attributes of God, and wrestling with questions around “the Sovereignty of God and the Freewill of Man” in regards to salvation.  From March to May, twenty-five students completed Romans Part 4 (Chapters 12 - 16) a 9-week course which showed us how the gospel is to be worked out practically in our lives.
At the end of September, we undertook Leviticus.  We discovered that this little-studied book has an amazing message that’s practical and applicable to us today.  The God who brought the children of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, gave them His statutes and ordinances, established a priesthood, and gave His people a pattern for the tabernacle where He might dwell among them.  This 7-week study provided tremendous insights into how we are to live as the “prophets, priests and kings” that God’s word says we are in Jesus Christ and how we as an unholy people can approach the Holy of Holies to worship God properly.
Currently, 26 students (man and ladies, 15 from Calvary Pentecostal Church and the others representing seven denominations) are involved in the13-week in-depth inductive study of 1 Peter.
Precept Bible Study meets Monday evening at 7:15 p.m. in Classroom #3 and Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the Café. Visitors are always welcome and may audit any lesson or all of the classes.

MISSIONS COMMITTEE

It is with a grateful heart that we report to Pastor Terry and the Board, that the Missions goal of 20K plus was achieved as follows:
Ghana, Africa            2,711.62
PAOC                     11,442.15
Mexico                      6,627.96
World Relief                 835.00
Mission Income           538.14
Village of Hope         2,248.00
Malawi Food               810.00
Total Missions     $25,212.87
We would like to thank the congregation for their generosity in giving toward our Missions Fund.
We would like to thank everyone for their generosity in giving to the Village of Hope, and to the Board and the Members of the Committee for their hard work and loyalty to the work of our Lord Jesus.
We have bought clothing and shoes which we took to a remote village in the hills close to the estate of Oaxaca, which took us about 6.5 hours to arrive to and we felt like it was Christmas all over again! To see the smiles on those little faces was worth the trip already but the crowning victory and honor to Jesus came when I called sinners to repentance and 90 came forward to accept Christ. We are hoping to build a room for church and gatherings as well as a Bible School for both adults and children.
Thank you for making it possible for us to gain souls for the Kingdom of God!
Armida Schulha

FRIENDSHIP GROUP

We have completed our seventh year ministering to the needs of the challenged in our community. Our numbers have increased dramatically as we are now the only ministry of this nature in the city. We are very grateful to Community Living for the use of their facility as it is totally accessible.
Our program includes music, scripture, sign language, prayer time, crafts and visiting speakers, and of course dinner every Thursday night.
The highlight of the month is the visit of Aunt Shirley and Cousin Carol, blessing us with music and stories. The last Thursday of May, we have our closing BBQ. Towards the end of June we have a 3 day campout. This past year we were blessed to have Pastor Keith and Susanna and a group of young people ending our campout with music, skits and a message from the word. What a blessing as we help to guide our special needs folk thru difficult areas of their lives.

Isaiah 40:31 - They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

This verse has been our mantra as we teach and pray with our “Friends”.
A special thank you to our volunteers, special guests, and you who uphold us in prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Bev Gimbel

AUDIO

Well, taking a look at the past year in our audio department, we have made some well needed upgrades and repairs. Thank the Lord for all the guidance and direction he has given in the sound department. We have gone from tapes to CDs and are able to edit the recordings. The CDs have colored labels, are titled and dated. Having the messages on CDs will make the Sunday morning sermons more accessible to people. We are currently working on being able to offer the praise part of the services on CD also.
We have also gone from overheads to video projection which brings more of a flow in song transitions. We upgraded our wireless microphone that is used for ministering the word. This has caused a noticeable difference in being able to have the message come out loud and clear (no excuses now). Having a clear sound will help eliminate distractions during praise and the ministering of the word. The sound room still needs some finishing cosmetic touches.
Thank you for all the help from the volunteers in the sound department and to the worship team. Seeing the Lord growing us all together has been a blessing. Great job and God bless you.
Murray

KAWARTHA LAKES DREAM CENTRE
THRIFT STORE & FOOD BANK

Another year has come and gone for the Dream Centre, and it has been a wonderful God blessed one.
We have had many challenges, but we’ve kept our eyes on our sole purpose and goals. This is to feed the poor and give hope.
Matthew 25:35, 36 – “For I was hungry, and he gave me meat, I was thirsty and ye gave drink, I was a stranger, and ye took me in; naked, and ye clothed me.”
This is the purpose of the Dream Centre, reaching out into our community. There is a great need in this community. There are so many people who are down and out. Not only do they need food to sustain themselves and their families for the month they need hope. We lend an ear when needed and most of the time it is well needed. This past year we were feeding an average of 800 people per month. This is an increase of 200 people from 2004. The Dream Centre has become the largest food bank in the Kawartha Lakes region and serving the most people. December 2004 our Christmas hampers were a great success thanks to the help of the church family. We were able to serve 100 families with turkeys and all the fixings. Thank-you so much for your support and God bless. A big appreciation to the ladies who knitted many pairs of mittens for our Dream Centre families and children. A special God bless for Pauline Thompson one of our volunteers who knitted between 75-100 pairs of mittens.

We were able to keep some little hands warm this winter. The thrift store donations have been steady coming in. We are overflowing with clothing, appliances, and furniture. We have been able to set up families in need with household items to furnish their homes. At times the donations were coming in faster than we could dispose of them.
To all our wonderful volunteers who help us currently and this past year we could not have made it without you. Donating your valuable time has made the Dream Centre what it is today. Thank-you so much and God bless.
Finally, for our church family thank-you for your donations, support, and prayers.
God bless.
Jenny Csiki
